This intelligent rollator supports postop care after knee and hip surgery by analyzing the patient’s gait.

Dubbed “RoRo”, the autonomous robotic rollator provides support in hospitals or nursing homes by analyzing how users walk after knee surgery and identifying appropriate exercises for each one based on the results. The autonomous robotic rollator can also independently fetch patients up and guide them to destinations within the hospital for x-rays, physiotherapy etc. while supporting them and helping them navigate. This has the added benefit of easing the workload of nursing staff.

This subproject of Fraunhofer IGD is addressing scientific aspects of camera-based indoor navigation and personal mobile assistance. Vital parameters are captured during exercise and/or everyday activities to identify patients’ negative internal states (stress etc.) and help optimize the human/machine interface.

Within the scope of this project, medical personnel, family members, and older persons who have had surgery are regarded as the main users and beneficiaries.
