On November 6, 2024, the Automotive Cluster RheinMainNeckar met at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research in Darmstadt to learn about the latest developments in visual computing.
In addition to presentations, live demonstrations of the following digital solutions were featured on the agenda:
- Autonomous robotics for 3D scanning and processing of individual components
- Rapid structural simulation in engineering
- Efficient decision support through visual analysis in simulation, testing, and production
- Image- and 3D model-based quality assurance in production and assembly
- Cost-effective use of machine learning in quality control through training data synthesis
- Training and education with digital twins using eXtended Realities (XR)
- High-quality 3D color printing
- Accelerated infrastructure planning through the processing of large point cloud datasets
The event concluded with snacks and opportunities for individual discussions and networking.
Many attendees provided very positive feedback on the event. Here are some of their comments:
"The event at Fraunhofer IGD on November 6, 2024, truly impressed me. I entered the event with relatively modest expectations and was incredibly surprised by the variety and depth of the individual research projects. I was especially impressed by the many areas where Fraunhofer IGD has already achieved remarkable results. One highlight among many was undoubtedly the 3D model-based quality assurance. I would like to express my gratitude for the great commitment."

"Thank you once again for the excellent presentations at your institute yesterday. I was impressed by the wide range of applications and use cases, especially the practical applications with relevance to and use in the industrial environment. Ultimately, it was also insightful to learn how your services help your industrial partners save costs and offer leading products to the market."
– Thomas Reißner, Head of GC Projects, Wallner und Brand Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH
"Thank you very much for your kind hospitality at yesterday’s Automotive Cluster meeting RheinMainNeckar. The presentations and demonstrations were very interesting and provided me with a comprehensive overview of your institute’s current competencies. I also found the subsequent discussions, especially with Dr. May, on topics such as 'multidimensional data visualization,' 'FMEA,' 'project acquisition,' and 'programming,' very enriching. Thank you for this evening."
– M. Hübner, Owner, Engineering Office Dr. Hübner
"Many thanks once again for the successful and highly informative event on Wednesday at your institute. It was a pleasure meeting you and your colleagues and gaining insights into your developments."
