Digital processes for sustainable and efficient fish farming

Knowing what’s in your tank

The challenges facing fish farmers are varied and include a substantial time commitment, high stress levels for the fish and the general inaccuracy of manual measurements. Fraunhofer IGD has developed a digital solution that takes these factors into account and accurately determines fish biomass using optical measurements of the specific distances between defined points on a fish’s body. Collecting such data on a regular basis is crucial for optimizing daily feeding, monitoring and regulating stocking density and ultimately determining the ideal time to catch the fish. Not only does this increase efficiency, it also improves the well-being of the fish.
