Andreas Wirtz began his scientific education by studying computer science (Bachelor's degree followed by a Master's degree) at the University of Bonn in 2007, focusing on Intelligent Systems and Computer Vision. He graduated at the end of 2013 as Master of Science.
Since the beginning of 2014, Mr. Wirtz has been working as a research associate at the Competence Center "Visual Healthcare Technologies" of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD in Darmstadt. His field of activity includes applied research in medical image processing with a focus on model-based segmentation, statistical shape models, neural networks, and image analysis in the dental area.
In 2021, Mr. Wirtz received his Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) in Computer Science from the Technical University of Darmstadt on the subject of "Automatic teeth segmentation and numbering with application in 3-D reconstruction".
As a project manager in industry-oriented projects, he works on object segmentation in dental image data, image-based 3-D reconstruction of teeth, design and implementation of web applications as well as on image analysis in the skin and cosmetics segment.
As the department's quality representative, he is familiar with the basics and requirements of quality management according to DIN EN ISO 9001 and ensures compliance with the system at departmental level.
